Taking a Break During Winter Solstice Season
This is the busiest time of year at work, so I wind down on social media from just before Thanksgiving until after the holidays. This year, though, I plan to extend the break for a longer period of time, and to a lot more things than social media.
After 2 and a half solid years at RI Democratic Women's Caucus, I will be stepping down from my role as Communications Chair and as Secretary of the Caucus. It's been an honor to do so much work for the state I love so much. However, 20+ hours a week of volunteer work, on top of a full time job, is not sustainable for long periods of time. I stretched myself to the limit. And now it's time to put my energy elsewhere.
I do plan to work on and launch NotebookWitch.com between now and the next solstice, Litha. But aside from that, I'm giving myself no other obligations. I know things will come up that ask of my time, but I need to focus on that now-cliched, but no less important, term called "self-care."
I have a mountain of laundry to do. I have a lot of yard space I want to convert to garden space. And I also will become a landlord very soon. Plus I will go from working from home every day to commuting 45 minutes to an hour, each way, every day.
There is a season for everything. So, at Yule, I have decided it is now the season to say no to all my outside obligations, and focus inward.
In the meantime, enjoy this Yule banner for social media and feel free to use for a post or a banner!
